April 29, 2019 - The IHSAA released its updated sectional realignment for the 2019 and 2020 football seasons with some significant changes to Sectional 33. Leaving are longtime conference and sectional foes River Forest and Lake Station as well as Gary Roosevelt and they're replaced by Andrean, Rensselaer, and Wheeler.
Andrean's entrance to 2A Sectional 33 comes to no surprise as their enrollment numbers continue to decline. They have spent the better part of three decades dominating in the post season as they have amassed 17 sectional titles, 8 regional titles, 6 semi-state titles and 2 state championships since 1989.
Rensselaer Central moves into 33 after spending the last cycle with Eastbrook in Sectional 36. The Bombers have 10 sectional titles, 4 regional titles, 1 semi-state and 1 state championship since 1986 with their lone state title coming in 2014. A long-awaited matchup with Whiting may be in the works.
Longtime conference foe Wheeler finds themselves back in 2A after a stint in 3A. The Bearcats have done their best to carry the torch for the GSSC in 3A especially after a huge 12-7 upset over Andrean in 2011 and subsequently their last sectional championship.
Sectional 33 is now one of the top sectionals in 2A and the whomever walks away with the trophy will surely be a contender to play in Indy on Thanksgiving Weekend.
