August 11, 2019 - In front of family friends and fans, the Whiting Oilers took the field for the first Green & White Scrimmage in 25 years. Once a tradition during the Haydock years, the G&W Scrimmage had a hiatus during the Cain era. However Saturday it made a return and was instantly a fan favorite.
The White Squad, led by Coach Davenport, won the coin toss and elected to take the ball to start off the game. They put together an 8 play drive that stalled on the Green's 41 yard line. The Green team had their own 8 play drive that too stalled after a couple of negative plays. It wasn't until Green's second drive of the game that the first points of the game were put up on a 43 yard strike from Connelly to Williamson.
On White's third possession, the "Young Guy Session", they put together a 10 play 65 yard drive capped off by a 5 yard touchdown by freshmen Julius Torres.
Torres added another at the end of the ball game, a 16 yard rumble around end. He finished the day with 12 carries for 62 yards and 2 TDs.
However it was junior Di'Andre Marshall that led all rushers with 11 carries for 76 yards and 1 score, a physical 17 yard score on the near sideline.
Junior Tony Madrueno added his own 5 yard plunge to cap off the scoring for the White Squad. Madrueno finished the game with 11 carries for 38 yards. He also completed one pass for 15 yards, a pitch and catch to Marshall.
Junior Zach Williamson led the Green Squad in rushing with 6 carries for 33 yards.
The final score was White Squad 24 and the Green Squad 6.
